Pioneer has officially unveiled the App Radio that AutoWeek told you about earlier this month. Now that it's willing to talk, Pioneer claims that the radio and audio system is "the first in-vehicle product designed to utilize the processing power, storage capacity, network connectivity and apps of the iPhone and iPod Touch as the primary source for its information and entertainment capabilities."
That does sound a lot like what Mini Connected and, in a more platform-agnostic sense, Ford Sync are doing. Pioneer said it couldn't speak to the similarity of those systems, but Ted Cardenas, director of marketing for Pioneer's car-electronics division, briefed us on installation of the device and what Pioneer is doing to minimize driver distraction.

Wrapped up in yesterday's announcement about McLaren Automotive breaking into profit for the first time was the news that a new, hardcore McLaren P1 track version will be launched next year. It seems incredible to think that anyone would want an even faster, more focused McLaren P1. But Woking has consulted the 375 owners and found out that their appetite for speed apparently knows no bounds.
The Maserati Alfieri Concept looks a cracker
Maserati has a proud history and, even though it makes some very appealing cars once more, it really doesn’t have a proper sports car in its range. But the Maserati Alfieri could change that. Named after Alfieri Maserati – one of the founders of Maserati – the Alfieri is a beautifully clothed sports car based on a shortened Granturismo MC Stradale chassis taking its inspiration from Maserati’s history but using it not to create a pastiche of the past but a credible view of the future.
